And this year again Google tried its best to be on top of the list of smartphones worldwide. On 4th Oct 2017, Google launched the Pixel 2 and Pixel 2 XL with the plethora of features that none of the other phones can provide. 5 Reasons to buy Pixel 2 XL
Although too many smartphones have 12.3 MP camera sensor with f/1.8 aperture what it makes it so special is the software. First of all, in terms of video, it shoots 4K video at 30fps which is standard but it uses both Optical Image Stabilization (OIS) and Electronic Image Stabilization (EIS). In short, your video will be even steadier.
That’s not all it is much better. The biggest surprise from Google was that it can take portrait shots even with a single camera. In case you don’t know what portrait mode is, it basically blurs the background and makes your shot more stunning. But in the past with the great competition of smartphones, they require dual cameras to take portrait shots, just like Galaxy Note 8 or iPhone 8 Plus. But the way Google does is completely different; they did it with a single camera. Not only that this works even with the front camera. So you can capture your selfies as well with portrait mode.

Other than this, if you are into tech as me, you would probably be aware of the fact that Pixel 2 and Pixel 2 XL are the only two phones with highest DXO Mark rating of 98 whereas iPhone 8 Plus and Galaxy Note 8 have a rating of 94 each. DXO Mark is basically an essential company that does some test on every smartphone with a criterion to see how good a smartphone camera is.
Pixel 2 XL has a 3520 mAh of battery that promises a full day’s battery life. Although it supports fast charging sadly there’s no option for wireless charging. Both of these phones come with 18W USB Type-C power adapter out of the box. Google claims to deliver 7 hours of battery life in only 15 minutes and that’s not a small number. Also, a Googler claims that the fast charging is more efficient than what they expected.
Dual Stereo Front Facing Speakers
Another thing that I found pretty awesome was the Dual Stereo Speakers on the front panel of the phone. Although some smartphones have dual speakers at the bottom, they sometimes become harsh and I start using headphones. But Pixel 2 XL brought the trend back.
While in a test of comparison between Pixel 2 XL and Galaxy Note 8 it was found that Pixel 2 XL performed much better than the Galaxy Note 8. The sound if fuller and much richer and has got better potential to reach the low notes that sounds much more natural to listen to. Also, as there are stereo speakers on either side of the smartphone we have got the extra level of immersion. The sound that you hear from the phone has a level of direction to it.
The Google Lens essentially adds a whole new level of intelligence to the phone’s camera. It allows the phone to understand the objects within the image using AI and machine learning. If you have seen the Google I/O 2017 that probably you should be well aware of what Google Lens can do. In case you don’t here’s an example.
If you have a business card then just click its picture and it will provide you their email address, contact number, and full address. You will also get an option to save it to your contacts. It can understand books, movies, videos, posters, drawings, landmarks, statues and even plants and animals and meanwhile translate the image to the information you need.

New and Better Google Assistant
And how can we forget our beloved Google Assistant that now, is not only is smarter and contextual but also can be activated with a squeeze? You can just squeeze your device to activate the Google Assistant instead of long pressing the Home button.
So now you can handle it with only one hand and squeeze to activate. Technically there is no actual squeezing in, it just works in a similar way to 3D touch and there’s a vibration motor that makes it feel that way. There’s no annoying button just like Galaxy S8 has for Bixby and you can access the Google Assistant with ease.
